2026 was a rough wildfire year, as was feared due to the winter's low snowfall. Utah State University has shared a report on how this year ranks. The Beaver Canyon Fire started near Strawberry Reservoir in January, which at that time of year should have been buried under several feet of snow.

Uintah County Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Fatal Fentanyl Sale

Jerod Arthur Young, a 50-year-old man from Fort Duchesne, has been sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for distributing fentanyl that caused a death. The sentence follows a guilty plea regarding a November 2023 incident involving a fatal transaction.

Heavy rainfall, floods damage gravesites at Duchesne cemetery

City officials said Monday that the severe storms caused "some complications and damage" at the Duchesne Cit Cemetery. "We understand how important the cemetery and the resting places of loved ones are to our community. Flooding in Emery County forced approximately 100 people to evacuate in Orangeville.

Season Start-Up

The North Sevier Cross Country Team shot off into their season this week with two meets. On Wednesday, August 26th the team traveled up to Duchesne at Starvation Reservoir for their first race. In the Girls's Race, Hannah Johnson finished 6th at 22:46; Linzy Perfect in 12th at 23:33; and Taylanee Aitken in 47th at 27:57.

Flooding causes Duchesne City Cemetery gravesites to sink into ground

Several gravesites at the Duchesne City Cemetery in eastern Utah have sunk into the ground following the heavy weekend downpours that caused flooding across the state. Along with the gravesites, multiple headstones were also damaged. Photos from the cemetery appear to show the gravesites having sunk several feet into the ground.

3 killed in Duchesne County after head-on collision with semi

40 after the truck driver overcorrected, troopers said. The truck then overcorrected, crossing into westbound traffic. None of the occupants of the Kia were identified. The driver of the semitruck was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening.

Vernal Resident Fredrick Wright Passes Away in Duchesne County Accident

Fredrick "Rick" William Wright, 54, died following an automobile accident in Duchesne County on August 28, 2026. Wright, a Vernal resident and Licensed Clinical Social Worker, was survived by his daughters, granddaughters, parents, and siblings.
