The Washington County School District has released its master calendar for the 2026-27 academic year, outlining key dates for students and staff. The schedule includes specific breaks for fall and labor day, as well as diagnostic assessment dates for elementary students.
Wildfire activity continues to escalate across the United States, with recent data from the National Interagency Fire Center showing over 5.6 million acres burned so far in 2026. Experts and satellite data indicate that extreme wildfires are becoming more frequent and intense due to warming climates and shifting seasons.
Governor Spencer Cox and U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz are scheduled to sign a $18 million funding commitment in Beaver County to support recovery efforts for the Cottonwood Fire. The event, scheduled for Aug. 6, 2026, will also include site visits to assess post-fire flooding risks and briefings on the active Widemouth 2 Fire.
