Obituary: Lea McDill

Maura Lea McDill, lovingly known as Lea, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, August 22, 2026. She was born on April 23, 1958, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Kenneth and Marilyn McDill. Lea eventually made her way west to Utah to attend Snow College, where a new chapter of her life began.

Bear cub found near Heber airport euthanized after biting officer

Officials say bear sightings increased in Utah and the West this summer after abnormal spring temperatures and drought conditions. Authorities were unable to find the cub's mother. On this particular one, we euthanized the bear because it did bite an officer, and anytime there's that, we just out of an abundance of caution for people, we do prioritize people over the wildlife, he said.

Utahn killed while fighting Dome Fire in central California

The Dome Fire in Yosemite National Park has been burning for six days and has consumed more than 3,660 acres. Wildland firefighters are battling it in extremely rugged terrain. Ryan Cutter, 46, of Park City, was one of the two helicopter pilots killed Sunday while those efforts continued.
