The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Utah on Saturday morning, according to a report published August 29, 2026. The warning affected areas within Tooele, Davis, and Salt Lake Counties.
At 10:43 a.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 12 miles south of Great Salt Lake South of the Causeway to near Tooele Army Depot South, moving northeast at 45 mph.
Potential hazards identified by the National Weather Service included quarter-size hail and wind gusts of 60 mph. Officials stated that hail damage to vehicles was expected and warned of potential wind damage to trees, siding, and roofs.
Impacted locations included Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Provo, Sandy, Layton, Murray, Tooele, Farmington, Grantsville, Hill Air Force Base, West Jordan, Orem, Taylorsville, South Jordan, Lehi, Draper, Riverton, Roy, Pleasant Grove, and Cottonwood Heights.
The warning was later lifted, though lighter showers were predicted to continue throughout the day.
