South Jordan is joining communities across Utah and the nation to commemorate the Semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
According to a June 1 statement, the city is offering special America250 hosting baskets to residents who sign up for America's Potluck on July 5. The first 20 households to show proof of registration at South Jordan City Hall will receive a basket containing special edition items.
The city's America250 efforts include various programs and events designed to connect residents with the nation's history. Upcoming celebrations include the SoJo Summerfest parade, America's Potluck on July 5, National Treasure at Movies in the Moonlight, and Utah Remembers, an event honoring the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 hosted by South Jordan and the Major Brent Taylor Foundation.
Planned community initiatives include an oral history project connecting youth and seniors, student art activities, and storytelling initiatives. Residents are encouraged to participate by attending events, volunteering, or hosting a potluck.
