The Salt Lake City School District’s Summer Food Service Program will offer free meals to all children between the ages of 0 and 18 this summer.
Free lunch service will be available at many schools throughout the city, various community parks, and the Salt Lake City Library. While breakfast is also available for free, it is only provided in school cafeterias on days when summer school is in session.
The summer program is funded by the federal government and operates under specific guidelines. Each child must be present in person to receive a meal, and meals must be eaten at the site, with the exception of one fruit or side item that may be taken home.
Meal sites will observe closures on three holidays: Monday, June 15 for the Juneteenth holiday, Friday, July 3 for the observed Independence Day, and Friday, July 24 for Pioneer Day. Because each location maintains its own schedule, visitors are encouraged to check specific times and dates for their intended site.
For children with special dietary needs, meals can be provided upon request by contacting the Child Nutrition Dietitian via email or calling the Child Nutrition Department.
Regarding regular school year operations, breakfast is served daily from 8:00 AM to 8:40 AM. Students receiving free or reduced price meals can access lunch and breakfast at no cost, though benefits apply only to one breakfast and one lunch each day.
Paid meal prices vary by school level. At elementary schools, lunch is $2.00 and breakfast is $1.00, while middle school lunch is $2.30 and breakfast is $1.20. Adult meals and second student meals are charged at $3.75 for lunch and $2.75 for breakfast.
