Utah Speaker of the House Brad Wilson and Senate President Stuart Adams planned to issue a joint citation praising President Donald Trump following Senator Romney's vote to convict the President for abuse of power. The move was announced to press in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The citation intended to thank the President for his work for the people of Utah. Chase Thomas, the executive director of Alliance for a Better Utah, stated that the timing of the citation revealed that Speaker Wilson and Senate President Adams were fearful of retaliation from the President. Thomas characterized the attempt to mitigate fallout from the Senator's vote as abnormal and unacceptable.
Alliance for a Better Utah, a nonprofit focused on political accountability and progressive policies, stated that history would remember the courage of Senator Romney's vote and the cowardice of Utah lawmakers who sided with a bully.
