SoftBank Group Corp. has invested $225 million in Autonomous Solutions, Inc., a robotics company with offices in Lehi, according to a report published October 2, 2026. The investment is intended to grow ASI's commercial operations and follows an announcement of the deal made by ASI on Sept. 24.
The partnership includes the formation of a joint venture to deploy self-driving construction equipment on large infrastructure projects, such as railways, airports, roads, and waste-management sites. While the $225 million investment goes directly to ASI, the joint venture is a separate entity also capitalized by SoftBank, though the companies did not disclose the specific amount of that capitalization or the ownership structure of the venture.
ASI's core product is the Mobius platform, which is software designed to coordinate autonomous vehicles from various manufacturers so they can operate as a single fleet. CEO Mel Torrie told The Robot Report that the joint venture aims to solve the bottleneck created by the difficulty of finding skilled equipment operators and coordinating mixed fleets across large jobsites. The partnership builds on a relationship dating back to May 2025, when ASI launched a heavy construction business unit with SoftBank as a strategic partner.
The investment follows ASI's recent expansion through acquisitions, including the March acquisition of Scythe Robotics, a Colorado-based firm that produces autonomous commercial mowers and the Scythe Sight computer-vision system. This acquisition added perception technology to ASI's fleet-coordination platform. SoftBank's investment in ASI follows a similar $200 million round for Gravis Robotics.
ASI was founded in 2000 by engineers who commercialized technology originally developed at Utah State University. While headquartered in Mendon within Cache Valley—where it operates a 200-plus-acre proving ground—the company opened a Lehi office at WeWork Innovation Pointe in June 2025, placing it within the Silicon Slopes technology corridor.
CEO Mel Torrie is scheduled to speak at the RoboBusiness conference on Oct. 20 during a session focused on outdoor autonomy.
