The incident, which occurred near 22nd Street and Porter Avenue, involved an officer who was present during the encounter and interacted with both the federal agent and the individual being detained.
In a statement released by the department, officials stated that the Ogden Police Department did not initiate the intervention, perform the detention, or request or verify any information. The department further asserted that it did not collaborate in immigration enforcement efforts. According to officials, the officer's presence was limited to ensuring safety and attempting to calm an unusual interaction that threatened to intensify.
The officer was reportedly in the area responding to a report regarding an aggressive dog near children walking to school when the federal agent arrived while following a suspect. During the encounter, the ICE agent requested that the local officer conduct a traffic stop on a man in a gold vehicle, a request the officer did not fulfill.
