High Valley Transit has begun construction on the Bobsled Express, a new Bus Rapid Transit project designed to alleviate congestion on SR-224, according to the agency on Aug. 20, 2026. The project, which aims to provide a reliable alternative to driving between Kimball Junction and Old Town, follows years of transit expansion in the region since the agency's establishment in January 2021.
Expanding Transit Infrastructure
The Bobsled Express project covers a seven-mile stretch originating at the Kimball Junction Transit Center and terminating at the Park City Old Town Transit Center. The route will feature six conveniently located stations, including a new Canyons Village Transit Center and new stations at Bobsled Blvd. and Thaynes Canyon Drive.
Service and Sustainability
High Valley Transit officials stated the BRT system is designed to move more people efficiently while preserving the mountain lifestyle and natural beauty of Park City. The service will utilize ADA accessible, zero-emission electric buses and is expected to offer 10-15 minute service throughout the day, seven days a week.
Addressing Regional Congestion
The Bobsled Express is intended to tackle congestion on one of Summit County's busiest corridors. By providing a rail-like service with the flexibility of buses, the agency aims to reduce traffic delays for commuters and visitors traveling through the area.
Performance Monitoring
High Valley Transit has maintained a focus on performance and meeting rider expectations through regular data reporting. The agency's Board of Trustees reviews data reports at a minimum of once per month to track performance metrics.
