The leadership and board for the Organizing Committee for the 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games were officially announced on Friday, February 14, at the Utah State Capitol. Utah Governor Spencer Cox and U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) CEO Sarah Hirshland jointly revealed the new structure, which includes longtime Olympic leader Fraser Bullock as executive chair and president.
Brad Wilson, a former Utah Speaker of the House and business leader, has been named chief executive officer. He will be supported by vice chairs Steve Starks, a Utah business executive, and himself. Governor Cox and Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall will serve as honorary chairs, while Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams and Utah Speaker of the House Mike Schultz will act as honorary vice chairs.
The organizing committee's leadership brings significant experience from previous Olympic efforts. Fraser Bullock previously served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer for the 2002 Winter Games and led the Utah 2034 bid effort. Brad Wilson served in the Utah House of Representatives from 2011 to 2023, including a term as speaker from 2019 to 2023.
Steve Starks, who serves as CEO of the Larry H. Miller Company and is the former president of the Utah Jazz, previously acted as a liaison to Governor Cox on the bid committee. The executive committee also includes USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland, USOPC President Gene Sykes, athlete representative Lindsey Vonn, and bobsledder Chris Kinney.
The board for the organizing committee features a mix of business, sport, and community leaders, with one-third of the members being Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Notable athlete board members include figure skating champion Sarah Hughes, Paralympian Oksuna Masters, and track and field gold medalist Allysson Felix.
Catherine Raney Norman, who served as the bid committee chair, will lead the committee's Athletes’ Commission. The development of this 25-person board was a collaborative effort involving Utah Olympic and Paralympic leaders, the State of Utah, and the USOPC, with review from the International Olympic Committee.
With all competition venues already identified, committee leaders intend to focus on community engagement throughout the nine-year period leading up to the 2034 Games. Fraser Bullock stated that while the 2002 Games focused on constructing venues, the 2034 efforts will focus on ensuring the values of sport impact all 29 counties in Utah.
