Bridge Construction

Project Overview

The George Washington Bridge Project will construct a new bridge connecting

George Washington Blvd to Crosby Way. The project is designed to improve

regional connectivity in the cities of St. George and Washington, as well as to

reduce existing and future delays at key intersections. Improvements began in

February 2026 and will be completed in July 2027.*

Project Update | September 25

Our project is 55% FINISHED!

The initial bridge deck pours went well. Our team worked from midnight to

8 a.m. Monday through Wednesday to complete the work.

During the three pours, crews placed approximately 3.3 million pounds of

concrete—roughly the combined weight of 800 average passenger vehicles.

The bridge deck also contains more than 1 million pounds of rebar, which

forms the concrete’s reinforcing framework. The massive drilled shafts installed

early in the project are carrying a heavy load!

All batches of concrete met the required testing standards. The deck is now

covered with wet burlap to promote proper curing.

The next deck pour has been rescheduled for mid-October, allowing our

ironworkers additional time to tie rebar on bridge spans four, five and six.

Our excavation team finished placing material around the east wingwall and

continues to place material around the bridge embankment. The embankment

lies between the future roadway and the elevated bridge. It will provide a stable

base for traffic and work with the bridge abutments to help retain the slope.

Thank you for your continued interest in our project! The project remains on its

critical path schedule, with completion anticipated in July 2027.

*Schedule is subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

concrete onto the bridge deck.

Materials continue to be brought onto the project site from Crosby Way.

All users of the Virgin River Trail need to stop at the designated stop

signs to allow safe passage for equipment and users. We appreciate

your patience and help in maintaining a safe environment.
