Altara Elementary has announced a series of upcoming community meetings and school celebrations, including a Dual-Language Immersion informational meeting scheduled for Nov. 3. The school is also preparing for a variety of seasonal events and community engagement opportunities throughout November.
Canyons School District is establishing enrollment targets and timelines to determine if schools have enough students to support two first-grade Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) classes or if a one-class cohort is necessary. This initiative aims to preserve strong language immersion opportunities amid declining enrollment. Canyons Superintendent Dr. McKay Robinson stated that the goal is to provide families with both opportunity and predictability while remaining committed to DLI despite demographic changes.
The DLI informational meeting for Altara families is scheduled for Nov. 3 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. in the school gym. District personnel will be present to discuss enrollment targets for next year and the process for determining class cohorts. Additionally, the school will host a Classic Skate Night on Monday, Nov. 9 from 5:00-8:30 p.m.
Other scheduled school events include a Veterans Day Program on Wednesday, Nov. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and a Vision and Hearing Screening on Nov. 13 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Literacy Night is scheduled for Nov. 17 from 5:00-7:00 p.m., followed by Career Day on Nov. 20 from 9:15-10:30 a.m.
Altara Elementary is located at 800 E. 11000 S. Sandy, Utah 84094. The school's PTA also manages several initiatives, including a Reading Minutes Contest and various spirit nights to support school activities.
Families should note that there will be no school during Thanksgiving Recess from Nov. 25 through Nov. 27.
