A Cache County Audit Certification Report published August 28 regarding the 2024 Primary Election noted a discrepancy between the number of ballots counted and recorded vote histories. According to the report, 18,228 ballots were counted while there were 18,227 vote histories recorded in VISTA.
The discrepancy was attributed to a voter with duplicate IDs who cast two ballots, though the duplicate IDs have since been merged. The audit included a review of 188 paper ballots and 193 signature affidavits. No inconsistencies were found during the signature audit.
Contests included in the paper ballot audit were Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, US Senate, US House District #1, State Auditor, and Cache County Council South #6 and North #4.
The audit summary for paper ballots processed 18,141 ballots. The report also confirmed that the clerk maintained proper chain of custody controls and verified that the firmware version on voting equipment matched the version certified by the EAC. All machine serial numbers matched during the installation and removal of journal tape canisters, and no evidence of tampering was found on tape seals.
The certification confirms that the number of vote histories recorded in VISTA closely matches the number of ballots cast in the county during the election.
