The Arizona Wildcats dropped their opening road game of the season on September 11 in a 28-17 loss to the No. 15 BYU Cougars at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah.
Arizona moved to a 1-1 record following the defeat, while BYU improved to 2-0.
Noah Fifita led the Wildcats with 230 passing yards and one touchdown pass, while also rushing for a touchdown on an 11-yard scramble during the first quarter. Arizona held a 17-14 lead before halftime after a 16-yard touchdown pass from Fifita to Shane King.
BYU responded with a strong second half, scoring 21 unanswered points. Bear Bachmeier threw two short touchdown passes to Kyler Kasper to give the Cougars a 28-17 lead with 6:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. BYU's defense tightened after halftime, allowing only minus-2 rushing yards and recording back-to-back sacks on Fifita in the final period.
The Cougars' victory was aided by a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bachmeier to Reggie Frischknecht in the second quarter, which marked Frischknecht's first career collegiate touchdown.
