Southern Utah University will host Utah Tech on Thursday, Nov. 5, with the Thunderbirds' Big Sky Championship tournament hopes on the line, according to a BVM Sportsdesk report published Nov. 3.
Southern Utah enters the match in seventh place, needing a win or a draw paired with a Weber State victory over Idaho State to claim the final tournament spot. A loss would end the season for the Thunderbirds, while Utah Tech has already qualified for the tournament.
The regular-season finale is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. MT at Thunderbird Soccer Field in Cedar City.
Southern Utah holds a 5-9-3 overall record and a 2-4-2 record in conference play, totaling 8 points. This puts the team one point behind sixth-place Idaho State. Freshman Ashlyn O’Malley has scored 7 goals for the team, and goalkeeper Tatum Trout has recorded 81 saves. The team has scored 30 goals so far, one short of the program record of 31.
Utah Tech enters the match with a 7-6-4 overall record and a 3-2-3 record in conference play, totaling 12 points. The team has entered recent play following three draws in its last four games.
The Big Sky Championship is scheduled for Nov. 11, 13, and 15. Southern Utah's postseason fate depends partly on the result of the Idaho State game at Weber State, which is scheduled to kick off at the same time as the Southern Utah match.
