The Museum of Utah is set to officially open its doors on Saturday, June 27, with a grand opening community celebration. Located in the new North Capitol Building, the museum serves as an extension of the Utah Historical Society and acts as Utah's first state history museum.

The celebration will take place at the Utah Capitol Complex from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., featuring live music, food trucks, and various activities.
Permanent gallery themes and content
The museum's permanent galleries include Becoming Utah, Connecting Utah, Building Utah, and Inspiring Utah. These galleries explore themes such as the journey to statehood, community interconnectedness, the history of agriculture and mining, and the state's distinctive innovations.
Notable museum collection highlights
A notable addition to the collection is the Mormon Meteor III, an iconic land speed racer that will be on display in the Inspiring Utah gallery. Additionally, visitors can view the Alice Merrill Horne Collection, which consists of over 2,000 works including paintings, sculptures, and textiles.
Upcoming temporary exhibit information
A temporary exhibit titled The Past is Personal will run from summer 2026 through spring 2027. This exhibit uses the Utah Historical Society's Peoples of Utah Revisited project to explore concepts of commemoration and community.
