Former Utah State Auditor John Dougall is advocating for increased transparency regarding potential conflicts of interest among government officials.
Dougall, who served as the state auditor for 12 years until leaving office in January 2025, suggests that officials should disclose more information publicly to avoid negative consequences.
According to Dougall, failing to address conflicts of interest can lead to public speculation.
He stated that even when an official acts in a fair, reasonable, and appropriate manner, a lack of disclosure can result in poor outcomes.
