The Babylon Fire has surpassed the Cottonwood Fire to become the largest fire currently burning in America, according to reports from Monticello. The fire has grown to over 96,000 acres and continues to threaten additional structures.
The San Juan County Sheriff's Office issued a set order, advising residents to be prepared to evacuate with little notice. Over 1,100 firefighters have been working to battle the flames.
At least five structures have already been destroyed by the fire. Conditions remain difficult for crews as the fire weather has remained hot and dry. The fire's containment level was reported at zero percent.
The fire continues to pose a threat to the area as it grows in size and impacts the local community.
