Logan city officials and business community leaders are planning events for Saturday, Oct. 24, to mark the opening of the Main Street underpass trail. The project provides a new link spanning Main Street to connect various trail segments.
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m. at 506 South Main Street. This location is near the underpass at 600 South, situated by the Logan River bridge on U.S. 89.
In addition to the ceremony, city and Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce officials will host a free Breast Cancer Awareness Five-Kilometer Race and Fun Run that morning. Race participants can check in at 506 South Main Street between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., with the race scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
The more than $4 million project was a collaboration between Logan City officials and the Utah Department of Transportation. Construction on the bike and pedestrian underpass began in September of 2025.
Located at 600 South Main, the underpass will connect more than 17 miles of existing east and west trail segments with new trail sections at the Riverwalk and Gateway developments. According to city officials, the completion of the underpass will offer alternative commuting methods and improved safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
The Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce and city officials are organizing the festivities. Organizers expressed hope for a large turnout for the race and view the event as an opportunity to introduce the new trail section while supporting a vital cause.
Local businesses are encouraged to support the breast cancer awareness event by providing healthy food options, water, snacks, or coupons and gift certificates for participants. October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the United States.
