Canyon View High School is seeing a significant rise in student engagement, highlighted by the recent success of state championship esports and marching band teams as the school continues to expand its extracurricular offerings.
The Nurturing the Nest podcast recently featured members of the school's championship esports team, who discussed the skills and experiences gained through competitive gaming. The program also highlighted the CVHS marching band, which secured a state title after defeating a long-standing rival.
New instructional opportunities are also appearing on campus, such as beading classes taught by Jeremy Garcia. The sessions, held in Mrs. Manesse's room, are open to high school and middle school students, while elementary students may attend if accompanied by parents.
As student activity increases, Iron County Schools is managing broader district-wide changes. The Board of Education has been reviewing boundary proposals in preparation for the opening of a new East Elementary building this fall. While open houses were recently held at Cedar Middle and Canyon View Middle schools, the district continues to seek public input through February.
The school year remains active with upcoming events including the spring choir concert on May 11. Additionally, Iron County Schools reminded all volunteers that background checks and training are required for anyone chaperoning field trips or participating in classroom activities.
