Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect at Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. Under these restrictions, no open fires of any kind are permitted.
This prohibition includes fires within established fire pits, charcoal grills, pellet grills, and any use of ash-producing fuel.
Portable camp stoves that are liquid or gas-fueled and properly shielded with a shut-off valve remain allowed. However, these must be used in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren and contains no flammable vegetation.
Visitors to the park can engage in various activities such as camping along the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir, swimming, or renting kayaks and paddleboards. The park also features nature trails through a petrified forest where visitors are reminded to take only photographs.
The park provides information regarding more conditions via the More Conditions Information button on their official site. Some local lore suggests that removing pieces of petrified wood brings bad luck.
