Kearns has entered a new era following its official incorporation as a city in 2024. This change followed the passage of House Bill 35 by the Utah Legislature.
The community, which is home to more than 38,000 residents as of 2025, continues to build on its rich history and identity.
The city is known for the Utah Olympic Oval, a destination for speed skating that gained global recognition during the 2002 Winter Olympics. Referred to as the fastest ice on Earth, the venue has hosted more than 100 world records.
Kearns is currently preparing to host events for the 2034 Salt Lake City Winter Games.
Named in honor of U.S. Senator Thomas Kearns, the city remains a center for community life and athletic excellence. The community is described as a vibrant and close-knit area with deep pride in its neighborhood and heritage.
