Remains discovered at the Grand Canyon have been confirmed to be those of Timothy Smith, who went missing after flash flooding occurred in the area late last month, according to a statement from his wife. Smith, 53, was the final hiker missing in the flooding incident.
Park officials stated that Smith was found near Crystal Rapid on Monday. His wife, Carrie Smith, said he was identified on Tuesday and noted via social media that the family had been waiting and hoping for his return for three weeks.
Smith had arrived at the Grand Canyon on Aug. 27 with friends John Giusti, 46, and Brent Rosenkranz, 42, for a trip they had been anticipating, according to a spokesperson for the families. The deaths of Giusti and Rosenkranz were confirmed on Sept. 1 by their families and the National Park Service.
The three men were from Granbury, Texas, near Fort Worth, where Giusti and Rosenkranz resided. Smith was from Star Valley Ranch, Wyoming.
