Defending 3A champion Ogden secured a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Morgan in the 3A girls soccer state semifinals on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The win, achieved amidst rain and wind, marks the eighth consecutive trip to the state finals for the No. 2 seeded Tigers.
The match was shaped by cold, unrelenting rain that affected the pitch throughout the contest. Morgan initially took a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal from Gwenyth Aardema, who was assisted by Bryleigh Thomas with 22 minutes remaining in the period. Morgan sophomore Monea Whimpey responded with a tying goal shortly after the halftime break, capitalizing on a defensive error by Ogden.
Ogden eventually found the decisive goal late in the second half when Alondra Ayala and Baylor Weston connected on a pass. Head coach Alexis King noted that the team had prepared for such weather during practice the previous week when a tropical storm system hit the state. King stated that the team's confidence helped them finish the game after a sluggish second half.
The rivalry between Ogden and Morgan has become a postseason staple, with the teams meeting six times in the postseason, including three state title games, since 2021. While Morgan defeated Ogden 2-1 for the 3A title in 2024, the Tigers have won six consecutive matches against the Trojans following the Oct. 22, 2026, result. Ogden, which holds six all-time state titles, is seeking its first repeat championship this weekend.
Ogden is scheduled to face top-seeded Manti for the 3A state championship at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zions Bank Stadium.
