Centennial Middle School released a series of weekly announcements on September 28 outlining upcoming school activities and academic initiatives. The updates include information on the Day of Reading, scheduled safety drills, and various student recognition programs.
Centennial Middle School will participate in the state and districtwide Day of Reading on Friday, October 2. During the event, students will participate in a schoolwide Read-a-Thon during the PACK period. Students are asked to bring a physical book from home for the activity. To assist students, English Language Arts classes will visit the school library on the Wednesday and Thursday preceding the event so students can check out books. A special bell schedule will be in effect on October 2, featuring a Read-a-Thon period from 9:24 a.m. to 10:26 a.m.
The school will celebrate Attendance Week from September 28 through October 2 to recognize students for developing strong habits regarding attendance and punctuality. Students who are present and on time to all classes will be eligible for a special celebration held during the school day next week, though excused and valid absences will not prevent recognition. Additionally, a school safety drill to practice evacuation protocols is scheduled for Monday, October 5, followed by Picture Retake Day on Tuesday, October 6.
Students may participate in STEM projects for the District STEM Fair by choosing between science, engineering, or computer science categories. The suggested timeline for these projects includes brainstorming in September or October, gathering materials in October or November, and submitting presentations in January. For those interested in the PTA Reflections Contest, the theme is What My Culture Means to Me, and entries are due Tuesday, October 27. A PTA meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the CMS Library.
