A recent update from the Utah State University Alumni Association highlights several notable accomplishments by alumni in various professional sectors. The updates cover significant career transitions, industry awards, and leadership roles within the state and abroad.
In business and leadership, Samir Kumar, a 1996 alumnus, was appointed country manager for India at Amazon in October 2024 following a 25-year tenure with the company. Additionally, Dustin Jones, cofounder and CEO of Unified Commerce Group, has invested in the Utah-based company Böhme. In the consumer goods sector, Weston Kay, a 2018 alumnus, founded Rose Anvil, establishing the company as an authority in premium footwear and leather goods.
In public service and community impact, Danny Beus joined the International Rescue Committee as executive director to lead efforts within Utah. Kathleen Riebe was named a Living Color awardee by Utah Business Magazine and Living Color Utah for her work toward state inclusivity. Sophia DiCaro, executive director and senior advisor for the Utah Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, was recognized as one of Utah’s Most Influential Women of 2024 by Utah Business Magazine.
The alumni updates also recognize achievements in education, sports, and media. Laura Haynie was named the Cache County School District’s 2024-25 District Teacher of the Year. In athletics, NBA coach Dick Motta was inducted into the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame, honoring a 25-year coaching career. Finally, veteran Deseret News photographer Jeffrey Allred is retiring following a 32-year award-winning career.
