Superintendent Dau of the Provo City School District shared updates regarding school achievements and district initiatives in a message posted to the district's website.
Timpview High School was recently named by U.S. News and World Report as the number 9 high school in the state. Superintendent Dau attributed this recognition to the collective efforts of the Timpview community, including teachers, administrators, counselors, staff, parents, and students.
The Provo City School District was also recognized as one of 10 districts in the state where students perform at higher levels than their zip codes and family circumstances might suggest. Superintendent Dau stated this achievement is a result of the district's education system and a partnership between teachers, students, and parents.
Regarding district policy, Superintendent Dau addressed social media discussions concerning new legislation that prohibits certain food dyes and additives. While parents are permitted to bring these food items for their children, restrictions apply to items provided by teachers, schools, or donations. Detailed specifics regarding these restrictions were shared via email to parents.
The district's board recently held a meeting where the Elementary Dual Language Immersion Committee was discussed. This committee includes parents from every elementary school in the district, regardless of whether they have a DLI program. The committee aims to provide the board with feedback from all parents regarding priorities and concerns related to DLI programming to ensure equitable service for both DLI and non-DLI students.
Additionally, Superintendent Dau encouraged parents to update emergency contact information, including phone numbers and addresses, via PowerSchool. Parents were also reminded to complete the online registration process to provide permission for school climate surveys and directory information sharing.
The district is looking forward to September, which is designated as American Founders and Constitution Month. During this time, the Freedom Festival will offer contests and opportunities for school involvement, and legislators are expected to visit various classrooms.
