The Provo City School District is inviting students, families, educators, and the community to participate in Read Across the World through ProvoREADS, a district-wide commitment to literacy. The initiative focuses on the goal of ensuring every child in Provo reads every day to help open doors to new places, perspectives, and ideas.
The theme for this year, Read Across the World, frames the school year as a reading adventure through monthly themes inspired by different stages of a journey. Students are encouraged to discover books that interest them, establish reading habits, and explore new genres. Each month will include a Family Reading Challenge, with schools using read-alouds, activities, and celebrations to make literacy visible.
The first destination in the program is titled Pack Your Bags, which focuses on preparing for upcoming reading adventures. This month encourages students and families to find books that spark curiosity and establish consistent reading routines. The August Family Reading Challenge suggests reading in a new location, such as a park, under a tree, or in a blanket fort.
The district emphasizes that building strong readers requires a community-wide culture of literacy that extends beyond the classroom. The initiative calls on parents, teachers, and community leaders to model reading behavior to show children that literacy is a lifelong value.
