Salt Lake County announced in a September 18 notice that a public hearing will be held on October 6, 2026, to discuss a proposed special bond election. The hearing aims to gather public input regarding the issuance of general obligation bonds and their potential economic impact on the private sector.
According to the notice, the Salt Lake County Council adopted a resolution on August 4, 2026, which was later amended on August 18, 2026. This resolution provides for a local special bond election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The election would ask qualified electors if the county should issue general obligation bonds in an amount not to exceed $128,000,000.
If approved by voters, the county intends to use the funds for repairing, completing, acquiring, constructing, or renovating open space, natural habitats, parks, community trails, and recreational facilities under the charge of the county. The funds may also be used for refunding general obligation bonds at or prior to their maturity.
The county proposes to pledge its full faith and credit for the payment of these bonds and may be required to levy and collect ad valorem taxes sufficient to pay them.
The public hearing is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on October 6, 2026, at the regular meeting place of the County Council. The meeting will be held in the Governmental Chambers, N1-100, located at 2001 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Members of the public are invited to attend and participate.
