On Sunday, September 27, 2026, law enforcement and assisting agencies found skeletal human remains during an organized search in a remote area of Little Mountain, approximately 15 miles northwest of Vernal. Search crews were in the area doing follow up on a missing person case.

Uintah County Treasurer Retiring After 30 Years Of Service With County | Basin Now
After 3 decades of service, Uintah County Treasurer Wendi Long has announced her retirement. Long began working for Uintah County in 1996 when she was hired as a deputy treasurer by Donna Richens, the County Treasurer at the time. For 10 years she worked in that position until Richens retirement in 2006.
