A Weber School District bus accident is under investigation following an incident on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. The accident occurred just after school let out that afternoon in Weber County.
According to a press release from Weber School District Public Information & Safety Officer Lane Findlay, the accident took place just before 3:00 p.m. on 4000 North at approximately 2975 West. The bus was transporting special education students from Fremont High School to their homes in the Farr West area when the incident occurred. The substitute driver was attempting to turn the bus around when the vehicle backed off the shoulder of the road and into a ditch. Two high school students were on the bus at the time, but neither the driver nor the students were injured.
The district's transportation department arranged for the students to be picked up and taken home following the accident. A tow truck was called to pull the bus out of the ditch. While the accident appeared to have been caused by driver error, Lane Findlay stated in an email on Tuesday afternoon that the bus was not damaged in the accident.
The incident occurred on the driver's first day as a substitute driver. Findlay noted that the driver had not previously traversed the route before the accident happened. The Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the school district are investigating the incident.
