Three newly-created school districts launched searches for their inaugural superintendents. This development followed a 2024 vote in which voters approved the creation of three new school districts.
New school board members were elected last month and began the process of building these new districts.
The Utah School Boards Association is managing the application process on behalf of the new boards. All three boards are accepting applications through early January.

Rob Smith, interim superintendent of Alpine School District, stated that the new school boards have a rare opportunity to establish their own vision and culture. He described the process as responsible governance in practice, noting that voters chose board members to establish public education systems and those boards will now seek skilled leaders to execute their vision.
The new school districts are scheduled to assume all operations on July 1, 2027. On that date, the Alpine School District will cease to exist.
Smith stated that the legacy of the Alpine School District would continue within these new districts and expressed commitment to helping the new boards find the right leaders to build on their established foundation of excellence.
