Skyridge quarterback Jagger Fountaine threw three first-half touchdowns to lead the Falcons past the Liberty Patriots 24-20 in Henderson, Nevada, on Friday, Sept. 4, according to a September 8 report.
The win followed a setback where the team bus broke down on the road to Las Vegas, leaving players stranded in the heat. While a replacement bus eventually reached Liberty High School, the incident cut the team's warm-up routine short.
Liberty opened the scoring with a 29-yard field goal. Fountaine responded with a one-yard touchdown pass to junior running back Beckham Bennett with 31 seconds remaining in the first quarter, followed by an extra point from kicker Evan Kopp.
Fountaine continued his performance in the second quarter by connecting with sophomore receiver Malosi Shepard for a five-yard touchdown and later throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Steeler Wesley. Skyridge entered halftime with a 21-10 lead.
Liberty reduced the deficit to 21-17 in the third quarter, after which Kopp added a field goal to extend the Skyridge lead to 24-17. A field goal by the Patriots in the fourth quarter brought the score to 24-20 before the Falcon defense secured the win.
Individual defensive leaders included senior linebacker Sa Tanuvasa, who recorded eight tackles, including three solo. Senior linebacker Rex Caswell, junior linebacker Jackson Horsley, and senior tackle Latu Moeai each recorded five tackles. Senior defensive lineman Sua Ripley recorded three hurries.
Fountaine completed 25 of 40 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Wesley and Koa Wallwork each recorded seven receptions, with Wesley totaling 106 yards and Wallwork totaling 84 yards. Bennett led the ground game with 18 carries for 57 yards.
The victory moved Skyridge to a 3-1 record. The team was scheduled to host the Skyline Eagles for Homecoming on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7 p.m.
