University of Utah head football coach Morgan Scalley held a weekly press conference at the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center. During the session, Scalley reviewed the team's performance in the Idaho game and discussed the upcoming matchup against Arkansas.
Scalley expressed satisfaction with the defensive line's performance against Idaho, specifically noting the play of Karson Kaufusi, Jireh Moe, and Lance Holtzclaw. He noted that Holtzclaw provided pressure and forced several quarterback hits. Regarding special teams, Scalley credited Dillon Curtis and mentioned a nice punt return by Mana Carvalho.
On the offensive side, Scalley stated that the offensive line became more cohesive as the game progressed. He noted that the unit did not allow a sack and expressed pride in the rotation at the guard position. He mentioned that the team aims to settle into a starting five for the upcoming game.
Scalley also discussed the depth of the offense, noting that quarterback Devon Smith connected with eight different wide receivers. He mentioned that having many players involved, including Hunter Andrews and Braden Pegan, can make it difficult for opponents to scheme against the team.
The University of Utah will face Arkansas, which Scalley described as a quality SEC opponent. The team previously faced Florida in 2023, making Arkansas the second SEC opponent the team will host at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
