A 32-year-old Morgan County man was arrested Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, following an alleged multi-hour physical assault on his 80-year-old grandmother that left the victim with broken bones and restricted breathing.
Criminal Charges and Enhancements
The suspect, whose name is being withheld by Gephardt Daily to protect the privacy of the victim, faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges. According to arrest documents reported by Gephardt Daily, the charges include second-degree felony counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, kidnapping, and intentional aggravated abuse of a vulnerable adult. The man also faces class B misdemeanors for threat of violence and damage or interruption of a communication device.
Allegations of Violence
All of the charges filed against the suspect include domestic violence enhancements. The investigation began after the 80-year-old victim reported that her grandson, who she said was intoxicated, assaulted her throughout the day and night. During the encounter, the woman told Morgan County Sheriff investigators that her grandson threatened to kill her, his family members, and himself using a firearm.
Isolation of the Victim
The victim reported that her grandson prevented her from leaving the residence during the assault. To isolate her, the man allegedly took her phone and shut off both the home's wi-fi and her Life Alert device. The victim also stated that at least one point during the ordeal, her grandson restricted her breathing.
Injuries and Escape
The victim was able to escape the residence when the suspect went into his basement bedroom. Following the incident, a deputy observed multiple bruises and a forehead abrasion on the woman. The victim further reported that a doctor informed her she had sustained fractured bones in her back and her left wrist.
Current Status of Suspect
Following the investigation, the 32-year-old man was taken into custody and booked into jail without bail.
