A deputy from the San Juan County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday that resulted in a drug bust involving 73 pounds of fentanyl pills.
The incident occurred in Monticello following a traffic infraction observed by authorities.
A San Juan County official noted that despite other ongoing responsibilities, deputies continue to work hard.
The discovery of the fentanyl pills followed the initial stop for the traffic violation in Monticello.
San Juan School District reported 2,773 total student enrollments for the 2024-2025 school year, with a demographic profile showing a 54% Native American population. The district, which operates 12 schools in rural and remote areas of San Juan County, manages an annual budget of over $70 million.
