The blaze is currently active on all flanks, with crews utilizing targeted firing operations to control the edge of the fire and working to hold the line along the eastern flank west of Lowry Water Road.
Weather and Containment Challenges
Weather conditions have complicated suppression efforts. Following a period of monsoonal moisture last week, the area has experienced continued hot and dry weather, contributing to the fire's movement. In addition to torching, crews are monitoring short uphill runs within the fire and toward Fly Canyon. To protect residential areas, a contingency dozer line has been completed north and northwest of the Reeder Subdivision, and engines are patrolling the area overnight as a precaution.

A community meeting has been scheduled for Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Spring City City Hall, located on the second floor at 45 S 100 E. In response to the fire's movement, range officials are working with permittees to move livestock to safer ground while heavy machinery is being utilized in the area for firefighting operations.
Forest Closures and Restrictions
The Manti-La Sal National Forest has issued an updated temporary closure order for portions of the Ferron Ranger District to protect public health and safety. The order, designated as Forest Order #04-10-26-02-02, was issued by Forest Supervisor Barbara Van Alstine and is in effect from August 3, 2026, through August 31, 2026, unless rescinded earlier.
Specific Road and Trail Closures
The closure encompasses all Forest Service lands in the Ferron Ranger District located northeast of the Reeder Canyon Trail, east of Skyline Drive, south of Potters Canyon Road, and west of Millers Flat Road. This includes the Potters Pond Campground and its associated spur roads. Specific road and trail closures include: Skyline Drive from the Potters Pond Road intersection to the Reeder Ridge Road intersection; the entirety of Reeder Ridge Road; Reeder Canyon Trail (091); Forest Road 0038 (Lowry Water); Potters Canyon Road (FS 0271); and Forest Service Roads 2206, 2207, 2209, 2213, 2228, and 2232.
Impact on Public Access
The Manti-La Sal National Forest has also closed Spring City Canyon Road (FS 0036) and Forest Road 0014 (Millers Flat) south of the access route to Potters Pond. Other closed roads include FS 2205, 0273, 2467, 2203, 2211, 2212, and 2340. The forest service noted that the purpose of these closures is to prevent human-caused ignitions and protect the public during active burning operations. Violations of the order can result in fines or imprisonment.
