The Black Canyon Fire has reached 2,762 acres as of August 8, 2026, with 0% containment reported. The wildfire, which began on July 30 due to lightning, remains active on all sides with reports of isolated torching and short uphill runs.
Fire suppression efforts are utilizing direct tactics where conditions allow and indirect tactics where needed. Current operations are focused on securing the southern and eastern portions of the fire near Lowry Water and the Reeder subdivision. Crews are working to improve dozer and handlines, aiming to tie them into the Fly Canyon Fire burn scar.
On the north and west sides, crews are evaluating opportunities for suppression. Contingency groups are also preparing roads to serve as backup fire lines. A total of 308 personnel are currently assigned to the incident, including 16 engines, 13 crews, 4 dozers, and 2 aircraft.
Weather conditions remain very dry with light, terrain-driven winds. While a small uptick in relative humidity is expected this weekend due to monsoon moisture spreading from southwest Utah, there is only a 10 percent chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Any storms that develop may produce lightning and erratic winds.
The Emery County Sheriff’s Office has issued a GO evacuation order for the Reeder Subdivision. Residents are advised to follow all instructions and stay informed through official sources.
Manti-La Sal National Forest has issued an updated temporary closure for portions of the Ferron Ranger District under Forest Order #04-10-26-02-02. This expanded closure includes FS Road 0036 (Spring City Canyon Road) and FS Road 0014 (Millers Flat). A temporary flight restriction is also in place over the fire area.
