A multi-agency wiretap investigation into drug trafficking organizations has resulted in the arrest of 21 people, including a 37-year-old man apprehended in Utah, according to officials from the Western Colorado Drug Task Force.
Scope of drug investigation
The investigation, which spanned from late 2025 to early 2026, targeted individuals believed to be sources of supply for illegal narcotics distributed throughout Mesa County, Colorado. The operation was conducted by the Western Colorado Drug Task Force in coordination with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Key suspects arrested in operation
During the operation, authorities arrested Travis Schultz, 37, in Utah on multiple drug-related charges. In Denver, police arrested 33-year-old Lester Miranda-Davis on an outstanding warrant; he was subsequently booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on charges of possession with intent to distribute.
Additional arrests in Grand Junction
Law enforcement also took 50-year-old Melvin Hunsberger into custody in Grand Junction. Hunsberger faces charges including conspiracy to distribute, tampering with physical evidence, and vehicular eluding.
Massive seizure of narcotics and cash
The investigation led to the seizure of more than 10,400 fentanyl pills, approximately 62.6 pounds of methamphetamine, and 13.11 pounds of cocaine. The estimated street value of the seized substances is roughly $450,000. Additional seizures included eight vehicles and approximately $117,000 in U.S. currency.
Ongoing investigation and participating agencies
The investigation remains ongoing with additional arrests pending. Participating agencies included the Colorado State Patrol, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
