WEST VALLEY CITY – BYU football picked up a commitment from a recruit who has been piling up offers over the past month.
Maa’imoa “Moa” Havili from Granger High has committed to BYU, days after receiving an offer from the Cougars.
“I am blessed and proud to announce that I am committing to play football at BYU,” Havili wrote on X.

Maa’imoa “Moa” Havili commits to BYU football
Havili is not currently rated on 247Sports, yet he has reported offers from Utah, Arizona, Alabama, Boise State, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, and others.
Standout performance at recent camps
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive lineman saw his recruitment take off during high school showcase events earlier this month that featured numerous college coaches from around the country.
He was also a standout at the Utah Ballers “Trench Warfare” camp in Herriman, earning top-10 defensive lineman recognition.
BYU is a “dream school” for Moa Havili
Then, BYU jumped into the mix with an offer after Havili had an unofficial visit to BYU’s campus, where he spoke with head coach Kalani Sitake and associate head coach Sione Po’uha in Sitake’s office.
Havili referred to BYU as his “dream school.”

Junior season statistics and honors
During his junior year at Granger High School last season, he recorded 102 tackles and 12 sacks. He had two games last season in which he had four sacks.
The Deseret News named Havili a 5A First Team All-State selection last year.

Local recruiting impact and class details
Granger High has produced some talented BYU defensive linemen in the past, highlighted by Khyiris Tonga and Manaia Brown.
Havili is the fifth high school player to commit to BYU football for the class of 2027. He’s the second recruit from the state of Utah, joining Mountain Ridge’s Tytan Dejong.
