The University of Utah’s Genetic Science Learning Center (GSLC) has announced a public fundraising concert scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026. Held at the Libby Gardner Concert Hall, the event aims to support and expand free science education resources provided to students, teachers, and lifelong learners.
The evening will serve as a dual celebration, honoring the retirement of longtime director Dr. Louisa Stark and formally announcing the center's new name: The Stark Science Learning Center (SSLC).
The program begins with a 5 p.m. reception featuring science art exhibits and hands-on science activities. The main concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will feature the Utah Medical Orchestra performing original compositions derived from the center's multimedia science education materials, alongside special musical guests and speakers.
According to Rachel Hess, MD, System Chief Research Officer & Associate Vice President for Research for University of Utah Health Sciences, the gala is a tribute to the history of the organization and an investment in its future. She noted that the event honors 30 years of impact on science literacy and celebrates Dr. Louisa Stark's extraordinary career.
Admission for the event includes general admission for $35, while students and those aged 18 and under can attend for $20. VIP and group seating options are available ranging from $100 to $500. The center noted that children under age five are not admitted.
The event will take place at 1375 President’s Circle, Salt Lake City, Utah. Attendees can find free parking in the A, U, and E lots on Saturday, with additional paid and free street parking available nearby. A limited number of ADA parking spaces are located on President’s Circle.
