Salt Lake City and Chelsea Investment Corporation broke ground Thursday on Camden Court, a 96-unit affordable housing development at 1283 S. 400 W. in the Ballpark neighborhood.
The seven-story development will provide 96 income-restricted apartments for households earning 60% of area median income or less. Camden Court will include 36 one-bedroom, 48 two-bedroom, and 12 three-bedroom apartments.
“Families shouldn’t have to leave Salt Lake City to find a home with enough room to grow,” said Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “By adding more affordable two- and three-bedroom apartments, Camden Court will give families more choices to stay here and remain connected to everything the Ballpark neighborhood and our city have to offer.”
The Salt Lake City Community Reinvestment Agency approved a $750,000 low-interest loan for the project in 2025. The investment supports the CRA’s efforts to expand affordable housing options for families and create more affordable homes near transit, jobs, and other everyday needs.
“Camden Court will create a place where families can put down roots, build stability, and thrive while strengthening the surrounding community,” said Charles Schmid, CEO of Chelsea Investment Corporation. “We are proud to build on the city’s vision and work collaboratively toward creating greater housing affordability for its residents.”
Camden Court will include outdoor community gathering spaces, a dedicated after-school room with space for homework and tutoring, and secure bicycle storage with a workbench and tools for bike repairs. The development is about a quarter-mile from the Ballpark TRAX station and near bus service, bike lanes, and dedicated bicycle corridors.
ELEV8 Architecture is the project architect, and JN Beach Construction is the general contractor. Construction on this project is expected to be complete in February 2028.
