Three federal wildland firefighters were killed and two others sustained injuries on Saturday during a wildfire incident near the border of Colorado and Utah, according to federal officials.
The incident occurred while the crew was engaged in firefighting efforts for the Knowles and Gore fires located in western Colorado.
Federal officials stated that five members of the crew became trapped during a burnover event.
The fatalities and injuries took place in Mesa County, Colorado, as personnel worked to combat the active wildfires.
