University of Utah Athletics Director Mark Harlan announced that the department is parting ways with men's tennis head coach Roeland Brateanu. Associate Head Coach Sten van Beurden will serve as the interim head coach for the program.
Brateanu spent 21 years with the Utah program, which included two seasons as a student-athlete, seven years as an assistant coach, and 12 years as head coach. During his tenure as head coach, Brateanu guided the Utes to four NCAA tournament appearances in 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023. He also earned five ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year awards and was named the Pac-12 Coach of the Year in 2023 after the team was crowned Pac-12 champions.
Harlan stated that he thanked Brateanu for his contributions to the men's tennis program and expressed support for Brateanu's family and for Sten van Beurden as he assumes interim leadership of the program.
