Salt Lake City offers federal funding for local projects through its Housing Stability Division. According to a notice on the city's website, these annual grants support both development and services.
Applications for these grants opened on September 1 and were scheduled to close on September 18, 2026, at 5 pm. Staff were scheduled to accept questions until September 16. The smallest award amounts are $50,000, and awards are for 12-month periods. Funding is distributed on a cost reimbursement basis.
Applicants must submit applications online through the Neighborly management software. The process requires separate applications for separate programs or projects. Before applying, individuals should register on the Neighborly website and review the application handbook and training to determine eligibility.
After submission, office staff review applications to check qualifications and provide an administrative score based on risk assessment questions. The Community Development and Capital Investment Planning board then reviews applications during the fall and early winter, scoring them based on project merit. Following this, the board recommends awards to the Mayor, who then recommends them to the City Council. The City Council makes the final selection during the spring.
If an application is selected, the city writes a contract during the late spring and summer. Once the contract is complete, award funds may be spent. Applicants can check their application status through the Neighborly website.
