The K-9 Program through Peace Officer Standards and Training provides training and POST certification for multiple specialized canine roles. These include Patrol, Narcotics, Cadaver, Explosives, SWAT, Search/Rescue, or Tracking/Trailing Dogs.
Training standards and certification details
Training and certification standards are based on reality. Within each scheduled course, handlers, instructors, and judges undergo training simultaneously, with certifications available for each role.
Course duration and facility information
Courses within the program last eight weeks in duration. Facilities include an on-site kennel and dormitory rooms for participants.
Tuition costs for participants
Tuition is not required for Utah officers. However, out-of-state officers are required to pay a fee of $2,175.00 per course.
