The Davis and Weber Counties Canal Company reports that the past two water seasons have been challenging due to extreme and exceptional drought designations. While the current snowpack is near average, officials noted that more precipitation is needed because of low reservoir storage levels.
Potential Water Restrictions Ahead
The company stated that if additional snow and precipitation do not arrive for the mountains and valley, there may be water restrictions or an early end to the water season, which often occurs on October 1 during drought situations.
Encouraging Efficient Water Use
Users are encouraged to practice efficient water use and adjust watering based on weather and actual need. According to the State website, a typical Utah household uses twice as much outdoor water as necessary. The company also noted that the State has updated regional conservation goals.
New Metering and Reporting Updates
The State requires meters on all new secondary water services, and the canal company has begun retrofitting existing services with meters. To help educate users and manage limited resources, the company is sending water use reports to those with meters.
