The project, which began in March 2026, addressed recommendations from a 2024 condition assessment of the tank. Located approximately 1,500 feet up Neffs Canyon, the facility is one of many water tanks owned by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities.
Impact on local trail users
During the construction period, officials noted that while Neffs trailhead parking and trails remained open, hikers and dog owners should have exercised caution due to increased noise, dust, and vehicle traffic on the access road.
Clarification of utility project scope
The utility project was a standalone effort and not related to any US Forest Service or Millcreek City projects in Neffs Canyon. Separately, Salt Lake County provides ongoing access to regional open spaces and trails, including Mill Creek Canyon.
