Utah's economy is outpacing the nation, according to a September 14 report from the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce. The report highlights significant growth in employment and consumer sentiment compared to national trends.
Utah employment grew 1.4% year-over-year in July 2026, compared to 0.3% nationally. This growth placed Utah as the state with the 4th highest annual employment growth in the U.S. for July 2026, having added approximately 25,200 jobs between July 2025 and July 2026.
Consumer sentiment in Utah increased for a third consecutive month from July to August. While national sentiment fell 6.3%, Utah saw a 2.7% rise in confidence regarding the economy and personal finances.
Taxable retail sales in Utah grew 4.9% during the first half of 2026. Even after adjusting for inflation, taxable sales increased by approximately 1.6%.
The Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce stated that these numbers suggest Utah is entering the season from a stronger position than much of the nation, though businesses still face higher costs and economic uncertainty. The Chamber aims to help Weber County businesses leverage this momentum through networking, promotion, professional development, and policy advocacy.
